ADHD Training for Counsellors and Professionals

Working with ADHD in the therapy room brings a different set of dynamics - ones that are not always covered in traditional training.

Clients may present with patterns that introduce new concepts, stretch familiar boundaries or raise questions that are not always addressed in traditional training, leaving even experienced practitioners reflecting on how best to support them.

This space has been created for neurotypical and neurodivergent counsellors who want to deepen their understanding of ADHD and find what works for them and ADHD clients in therapy.

ADHD Counselling - what works for you and your clients?

There is no single prescriptive model or training course for working with ADHD.

Finding what works, for both clients and you involves -  staying open, reading from a variety of sources, adapting your approach in line with what feels effective and congruent within your own therapeutic framework.

For many counsellors, this can bring up real questions in the therapy room.

  • Am I using the right language?

  • Do I need to be neurodivergent to truly understand this?

  • What training is actually needed?

  • Will this sit comfortably alongside my core approach?

  • Do I have enough understanding to offer psychoeducation safely and usefully?

These are all valid concerns - and questions I have asked myself along the way.

The journey of learning to work more effectively with neurodivergent clients is one I know well, and I aim to offer other counsellors a supportive and informative space as they navigate their own.
