Meet Rebecca

A psychologist, ADHD therapist and the founder of Untangle ADHD.

Before choosing a therapist, it's natural to want to know the person behind the website.

Here are some of the questions people often ask me before we work together.

Q.

Why did you create Untangle ADHD?

A.

When my husband was diagnosed with ADHD after more than thirty years of marriage, suddenly so many things that had confused, frustrated and hurt us both began to make sense.

Like many couples, we'd spent years interpreting each other's behaviour through our own lens. I saw forgotten promises, unfinished jobs and impulsive decisions. He experienced overwhelm, frustration and a constant feeling that he was letting people down.

The diagnosis didn't magically solve those problems, but it gave us a different starting point. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with you?" we began asking, "What's really happening here?"

That shift changed our relationship and, over time, the direction of my work.

Untangle ADHD grew from a desire to help people understand not only ADHD, but each other. Because so much of the pain I see comes not from ADHD itself, but from the misunderstandings that surround it.

Q.

What makes your approach to ADHD different?

A.

ADHD doesn't happen in isolation. It affects confidence, relationships, work, identity, emotions and the stories people tell themselves about who they are.

Many people arrive believing they're lazy, unreliable or not trying hard enough. Partners often arrive feeling hurt, ignored or unimportant. Both are carrying interpretations that have built up over years.

Rather than starting with advice or strategies, I start with curiosity.

Together we untangle the patterns beneath the behaviour, helping people understand themselves more clearly and, often, understand the people around them differently too.

Because understanding usually comes before lasting change.

"Most of the pain I see isn't created by ADHD itself. It's created by what ADHD gets mistaken for."
